Orchestration System

Tasks, Commands, and Actions are used to abstract the activities within the INTERSECT federated ecosystem. The Orchestration System (OrS) facilitates the interaction between systems, subsystems and services by managing the needed Tasks, Commands, and Actions using Workflows and Workflow Patterns. The OrS places and schedules the execution of Tasks, Commands, and Actions on the respective Systems, Subsystems, and Services they need to be executed. It relies on the Infrastructure Management System for gathering availability status information, allocating compute resources, and execution.

Components of the Orchestration System

Minimum requrement

At minimum, there must be one and only one OrS in an INTERSECT federated ecosystem, as the OrS spans over the infrastructure systems within the same INTERSECT federated ecosystem. Individual services of the OrS may be distributed across infrastructure systems as needed, where some services may only exist once.

Optional requrement

Optionally, multiple INTERSECT federated ecosystems may exist that operate either completely indepenently from each other or collaborate with each other, but each INTERSECT federated ecosystem has only one (its own) OrS.
